Fabric book cover

Here is a fabric book cover I've made for the wife of one of my colleagues from work.
It is basically two pieces of cotton cut to size sandwiched with batting then embellished with an appliqué flower, beads, glitter threads, sequins and stitching.  

Inside there is a ribbon bookmark and a place for a pen.

  

The never ending quilt story

I never made a quilt before but always fancied 'having a go' and having watched quite a few Youtube videos, I thought I could do it. 


Why, oh why did I decide to make a king size quilt for my first ever project.  I took almost a year to complete, I am in the habit of starting many projects in haste and never quite getting around to finishing them.  I rarely follow the rules, and just make it up as I go along.

Sun motif

Anyway, I started this quilt with a sun motif and then bought the fabrics to surround it. The sun is one of the Tonga Batiks from Timeless Treasures and then fused to a black background.  I then made up lots of pin wheel blocks (without a clue how many I should make) using up the colourful fabrics I had collected.  I suppose the main reason it all took so long is that I got a bit stuck with the layout and couldn't work out how to get the effect I wanted.  Well, it's done, and although I know it's far from perfect, I really love the bright colours and the sense of relief that it is finished feels good too.  :-)
